Vacuum gripper printed for use in the Additive Manufacturing System “Dynasty”.
3D printing is an invaluable tool in both prototyping and production. We used our XD Series 3D printers to develop and produce the gantry vacuum gripper used in the AMS “Dynasty”. With the ability to quickly prototype parts in-house, we greatly sped up the development process with fast iterations and improvements.
Each iteration was inspected and improved upon. The main targets were weight reduction, minimizing amount moving parts and parts which require maintenance, as well as reducing gripper size while retaining functionality.
After 4 design iterations we reached the design which is ready for production. Instead of using external vacuum lines, they are integrated in the gripper itself, thus reducing weight and size. The gripper also features an on-board camera for additional monitoring capability.
